The Berea City Park is a 38-acre athletic complex opened on July 4th, 1993 and is located behind Berea Community School off of Ellipse Street. This Park features the following Facilities & Amenities:

  • 1 T-ball Field, 1 Baseball Field w/grass infield, 2 Softball Fields and 1 Youth League Field
  • Duerson Football Stadium
  • 2 Playgrounds (Age 5 & Under and Age 6-12)
  • 1 Large Picnic Shelter with Grill and Restroom Facilities
  • Double Regulation Size Sand Volleyball Courts
  • Horseshoe Pits
  • U-6, U-7, U-8 Soccer Fields
  • 3/4 Mile Lighted Paved Shared Use Path
  • Press Box that Contains Restroom and Concession Facilities
  • Lighted Basketball Court
  • Swimming  Pool
  • Splash Pad

The Berea City Park Expansion is a 30 acre park that opened July 2010. This park features the following Facilities & Amenities:

  • 4,852 ft of Additional Shared Use Path that Connects to the Existing Shared Use Path at the City Park and the Beebe White Shared Use Path
  • Handicapped Accessible Playground
  • Skatepark with Modular Skate Elements
  • Regulation Size,Lighted Football Field
  • Regulation Size, Lighted Soccer Field
  • Concession Stand with Restroom Facilities and Covered Dining Area
  • Small Picnic Shelter
  • Lighted Basketball Court
  • 160 Parking Spaces

Skatepark Rules

  1. WARNING: The Berea Skatepark is unsupervised. Users assume all risks inherent in the use of this facility. Use may result in serious injury up to and including death.
  2. Know your abilities and skate at your own risk.
  3. Minors should have parental supervision.
  4. Only skateboards and roller skates are allowed in the skate area. No bikes, scooters or heelies permitted.
  5. NO motorized devices of any sort are allowed within the Berea Skatepark.
  6. It is STRONGLY recommended that users wear helmets, kneepads, elbow pads and other safety equipment to minimize injuries.
  7. NO smoking, eating or drinking allowed on the skatepad.
  8. NO glass containers on the skatepad.
  9. NO alcohol or drugs, knives or other weapons allowed.
  10. NO items may brought onto the skatepad as obstacles, ramps or for any other purpose.
  11. NO MAKESHIFT OR MODIFICATIONS TO EXISTING RAMPS ALLOWED.
  12. Do not attempt to move skatepark elements.
  13. Do not proceed into the skate area until it is clear of users and/or any debris.
  14. Do not use the facility during or after bad weather. Certain weather conditions such as rain, snow or ice can adversely affect ramps and surface conditions.
  15. NO spectators or loitering in the skate area.
  16. NO PETS are allowed on the skatepad or in the skate area.
  17. NO OFFENSIVE LANGUAGE or GRAFFITI WILL BE TOLERATED.
  18. Park hours are set by the Parks and Recreation Director.

The Kentucky Recreational Use Statute (KRS 411 190) applies to the Berea Skatepark

The Russel Acton Folk Center was built and owned by a group of volunteers, with the help of many generous donations, in the mid 1980’s. The dream of its namesake, Russel Acton, was to preserve the art of Folk Dancing in Appalachia. Contra Dances are held every fourth Saturday in addition to numerous other dance related workshops and activities. 

This facility is now owned by the City of Berea and is available for private rental. Featuring 3,500-square feet of open space, a commercial kitchen, (576 sq. feet) bathroom facilities and a half acre of green space, this facility can be used for a number of events including: weddings & receptions, showers, reunions, craft shows, etc. The cost is based on the total amount of time the facility will be used, total number of people and whether or not the kitchen is needed. 

On Thursdays, local musicians Donna and Lewis Lamb host “Jammin’ on the Porch.”  The free festivities begin at 7:00 pm. Donna and Lewis specialize in “old time” mountain music and bluegrass, but they welcome musicians of all styles. Out of towners are just as welcome as local folks, and all ages and all skill levels participate. Many people time their travels up and down I-75 to allow for a stopover in Berea just to join the jam session. They sit in a circle, pass the mic around, and give everyone a chance to share their music or musings, and they sing together. For more information, call the Berea Welcome Center 1-800-598-5263

In the early 1990’s, Berea celebrated its age diversity with the creation of the Intergenerational Center. The center, divided into the Berea Senior Citizen Center and Berea Head Start, serves the purpose for which the center was intended; to bring together youth and senior citizens, in order for them to learn from each other. The Senior Citizens Center offers a wide variety of recreation programs and a hot meals program for participants. The center also houses a private day care facility.

Some of the features of the center include several small rooms/offices, kitchen for the Head Start, a large community room, playground, and restrooms. The community room is home to many clubs and organizations and is available for rentals through the Berea Senior Citizens Center. For more information, call (859) 986-8350.
