The Finance Department is dedicated to ensuring the City of Berea's financial resources are managed responsibly, transparently, and efficiently while providing exceptional customer service to residents, businesses, vendors, and utility customers. Our team oversees a wide range of financial operations that support the City's daily services and long-term financial health. We process accounts payable, administer business licenses, collect revenues from business taxes, property taxes, and a variety of other sources. The department also manages utility billing and payment services for the Berea Municipal Utilities’ electric, water, and wastewater customers. Our staff assists customers with establishing and maintaining utility accounts, processing payments, answering billing questions, and providing responsive service to help ensure a positive customer experience.
The Finance Department also prepares and monitors the City's annual budget, providing financial analysis and guidance to support informed decision-making by the Mayor and City Council. Throughout the year, we monitor revenues and expenditures to help maintain the City's long-term fiscal health and ensure public resources are used effectively. In addition, we coordinate the City's annual independent financial audit and work closely with external auditors to ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, promote transparency, and demonstrate accountability to our citizens.
Whether you are paying a utility bill, renewing a business license, working with the City as a vendor, or exploring the City's financial information, the Finance Department is committed to providing courteous service, accurate information, and sound financial stewardship. We are proud to support the City's mission by fostering public trust through integrity, accountability, and excellence in every aspect of our work.
